Abstract

Environmental education in schools is a strategic step to raise students' awareness of the importance of preserving and protecting the environment. This study aims to describe the management of school environmental cleanliness as an implementation of Islamic values in shaping students' character at SMP Negeri 2 Tembilahan Hulu. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students as sources of information. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that school cleanliness management is implemented through various programs, including classroom cleaning schedules, collective cleaning activities, the provision of cleaning facilities, and habituation programs that encourage students to maintain a clean school environment. The implementation of Islamic values is reflected in the cultivation of responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and environmental awareness, which are integral parts of Islamic teachings emphasizing the importance of cleanliness. The continuous implementation of cleanliness management programs contributes positively to students' character development, particularly in enhancing awareness, responsibility, and clean living behavior. Therefore, school environmental cleanliness management serves not only to maintain physical cleanliness but also as a means of character education based on Islamic values.
